Classic Cornbread: A Nutritious and Versatile Delight

Cornbread Recipe

Cornbread is nutritious and versatile, offering whole grains, protein, and essential vitamins with low sugar content. It's quick and easy to make, pairs well with various dishes, and can be customized with additional ingredients. This comforting and popular dish can also be made gluten-free, making it a great addition to any meal.

 Ingredients:

- 1 cup cornmeal

- 1 cup all-purpose flour

- 1/4 cup granulated sugar

- 1 tablespoon baking powder

- 1/2 teaspoon salt

- 1 cup buttermilk

- 2 large eggs

- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

- 1/4 cup vegetable oil

 Instructions:

1. **Preheat the Oven:**

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a 9-inch square baking dish or a cast-iron skillet with butter or cooking spray.

2. **Mix Dry Ingredients:**

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir until well mixed.

3. **Combine Wet Ingredients:**

In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vegetable oil until smooth.

4. **Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:**

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined. Do not overmix; it's okay if there are a few lumps.

5. **Pour Batter into Pan:**

Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish or skillet, spreading it out evenly with a spatula.

6. **Bake:**

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

7. **Cool and Serve:**

Allow the cornbread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

 Tips:

For a sweeter cornbread, increase the sugar to 1/3 cup.

- Add 1 cup of corn kernels, shredded cheddar cheese, or chopped jalapeƱos to the batter for added texture and flavor.

- Serve warm with butter, honey, or alongside chili, barbecue, or any of your favorite Southern dishes.

Enjoy your homemade cornbread!
